Car Battery Acid Spill: Immediate Response

  3. Use a dry paper towel or stiff card to scrape up the crystalline residue without pressing it deeper into the pile.
  4. Once the dry material is removed, dampen a cloth with diluted white vinegar (1 part vinegar to 4 parts cold water) and blot the area — the acetic acid neutralises the remaining potassium hydroxide.
  5. Blot with clean cold water to rinse the vinegar, then press dry with a clean towel.
  6. Allow to air-dry fully — the area may show a faint discolouration if the KOH was in contact with the carpet for a long period.
