This palm nut cream is the defining characteristic of the soup: unlike palm oil (which is the extracted fat from palm nuts), palm nut cream also contains the coloured carotenoid-rich flesh of the palm nut, giving it a much more vivid and intense orange-red colour than palm oil alone. Step 1: Remove Meat, Fish, and Solid Ingredients

Collect all meat pieces, smoked fish fragments, and dried shrimp promptly — these are the primary protein and aroma sources. The smoked fish releases its smoky-seafood aroma immediately on carpet contact. Collect any whole pieces of scotch bonnet or habanero pepper. The palm nut soup base itself is a thick, intensely coloured liquid — blot and treat promptly. The vivid orange-red palm nut colour transfers to carpet very readily and immediately.

Step 2: Blot the Palm Nut Cream

Blot from the outer edge inward. The palm nut cream transfers its vivid orange-red colour immediately — the blotting cloth will show a bright orange stain in the first pass. Apply cold water and blot twice more. The palm fat in the soup (from both the palm nut cream and any additional palm oil used in cooking) will be present as a separate oil layer. The thickness of palm nut cream means it does not spread as far as a thin liquid, but the viscous cream still wicks readily into carpet pile.

Step 3: Apply Cornflour for Palm Nut Fat (Two Rounds)

Palm nut cream contains a high proportion of saturated fat (palmitic acid and stearic acid) — palm oil is approximately 50% saturated fat. The carotenoid pigments (beta-carotene, alpha-carotene) in the palm nut cream are fat-soluble and are carried in the palm fat. The cornflour step removes both the fat and a portion of the fat-carried carotenoid pigment. Apply cornflour generously, allow 20 minutes, vacuum. The cornflour will absorb the orange-coloured palm fat visibly. Apply a second round. After the second round, the remaining colour stain will be the water-dispersed carotenoid and the carotenoid that has already bonded to carpet fibres — this is addressed in the peroxide step.

Step 4: Apply Enzyme Cleaner for Smoked Fish and Meat Protein

Apply cold water and blot. Apply enzyme carpet cleaner and allow 20 minutes. The smoked fish protein (typically catfish or herring) responds to protease enzyme. The dried shrimp protein responds to protease. The goat or beef meat protein responds to protease. The scotch bonnet pepper contributes minimal protein but its capsaicin-carrying oil is addressed by the dish soap emulsification step. Follow with dish soap and rinse.

Step 5: Treat Palm Nut Carotenoid Colour (Two to Three Rounds)

The palm nut carotenoid colour (beta-carotene and alpha-carotene) is the primary carpet stain challenge and is significantly more colour-intensive per unit area than most other orange food stains. Beta-carotene is an oil-soluble carotenoid with an extremely vivid orange-red colour — even a small quantity produces a visually striking stain. Apply hydrogen peroxide 3%, allow 10 minutes, blot and rinse. Allow to dry completely. Apply a second round. The palm nut carotenoid reliably requires two to three peroxide rounds on pale carpet. Allow full drying between each round — the peroxide oxidises the carotenoid chromophore most effectively during the drying phase. The scotch bonnet/habanero capsanthin is also addressed in the same peroxide steps. Assess after two rounds and apply a third if any orange residue remains.

Step 6: Treat Smoked Fish and Dried Shrimp Aroma Overnight

Apply baking soda over the fully dried area and allow overnight. The dominant aroma challenge of palm nut soup on carpet is the combination of smoked fish and dried shrimp. Smoked fish (particularly smoked herring and smoked catfish) contributes both smoke phenolic compounds (from the wood smoking process) and fish trimethylamine (TMA) compounds. Dried shrimp (ebi) adds a concentrated fermented seafood note. These combined aromas are persistent on carpet and benefit from two overnight baking soda applications for a generous soup spill — apply the first overnight, vacuum thoroughly the following day, and apply a second overnight application.
