Step 1 — Vacuum All Rice Grains Before Any Liquid

Do not proceed with liquid treatment until the carpet is visually grain-free in the stain area.
Step 2 — Warm Water Rinse for Retrograded Starch Film
After grain removal, apply warm water to the stain area. Warm water re-hydrates the retrograded starch film left behind by the rice grains and the starch coating on the cooking vessel surface. The retrograded starch dissolves at warm temperature more readily than cold. Blot out thoroughly.

Step 5 — Amylase Enzyme for Residual Rice Starch
Apply enzyme cleaner — amylase-containing if available — to address the residual retrograded starch film. Allow 12 minutes dwell. If only protease enzyme is available, use it — it addresses any protein components and some broad-spectrum enzyme products have starch activity. Blot out and rinse warm.
Step 6 — Hydrogen Peroxide (Only if Soy or Garlic Maillard Tinting)
Sinangag typically leaves no visible chromophore stain — the fried rice is pale. Apply 3% H2O2 only if a brown tint from toasted garlic bits or a light soy finish remains after the enzyme step has dried. In most cases this step can be skipped.
Step 7 — Extended Baking Soda Dry Finish for Garlic Odour
Apply generous dry baking soda across the full treated area. Leave for a minimum of two to three hours — overnight is ideal for sinangag because the garlic organosulfur odour is the most persistent component. The allicin breaks down into multiple sulfur compounds over time that baking soda progressively adsorbs. Vacuum and ventilate fully. If a garlicky odour persists after overnight baking soda treatment, a second dish soap plus enzyme pass followed by another overnight baking soda treatment should clear the remaining organosulfur compounds.
